Dishonored is another critically acclaimed game series by Arkane and the gameplay in Deathloop is an evolution of many of the gameplay mechanics introduced in Dishonored. On October 8, 2022, Bethesda confirmed that the two games take place in the same universe, with Deathloop occurring many years after Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.[1][2]
Connections between the games
References to Dishonored which can be found throughout Deathloop include:
- Mentions of Tyvia, a location in Dishonored
- A sign on a door lock which used to read "You are now entering a Tyvia High Judge Army Installation. Use of deadly force has been authored[sic]." This was removed in a post-release patch.
- Art assets in the files which have 'Tyvia' in their title
- The Motherland is a nation in Deathloop which has parallels with the real-world Soviet Union, on which Tyvia is based.

- A recording in the Intelligence Archives Office plays a the "Drunken Whaler" song from Dishonored.
- The pistols provided by Julianna in her final confrontation with Colt are said to use whale oil cartridges, like the pistols in Dishonored.
- The pistols themselves also resemble the ones used by the player an enemies alike in Dishonored, and the case that Julianna keeps them in resembles the case holding the dueling pistols used by Corvo Attano and Montgomery Shaw at the Boyle Mansion.
- The Heritage Gun has 'DUNW' engraved on it and a logo which looks like a Dunwall clock tower.
- The mention of "witch trials" that occurred on Blackreef during its colonial days may be a reference to the Abbey of the Everyman, the state religion of the Empire of the Isles prior to 1853. They were known for their zealotry and the burning of witches and heretics well into the industrial age.
- Several Eternalists make mention of an electrical unit known as "Joplins". Piero Joplin was a famous natural philosopher in the Dishonored series.
- The "Touch of the Stranger" arcade machine resembles the real-world 1978 arcade game Space Invaders, but the "ship" is the Outsider's Mark turned counterclockwise by 45 degrees.
