Aether is an ability in Deathloop that is available when the Aether Slab is equipped. The Aether Slab is dropped by Egor Serling or may be randomly dropped by Julianna Blake.
Gameplay
Using Aether provides near-invisibility. Press L1 to activate the ability and press L1 again to cancel it.
This Slab drains your Power over time while active.
Aether's camouflage is most effective when you're stationary. The faster you move, the more visible you become - and the faster your Power drains.
Sensors, trip mines, and turrets can't see you while Aether is active. However, you can still trigger proximity mines.
You will still make sounds while moving when Aether is active. Attacks or other aggressive behavior ends the effect unless a relevant Slab upgrade is equipped.
Upgrades
Aether has four possible upgrades:
Erase: While Aether is active, killing an enemy doesn't leave a trace.
Flicker: Attacking while using Aether makes you appear briefly, but doesn't halt the effect.
Ghost: Aether doesn't consume Power while you're standing still.
Phase: Damage doesn't deactivate Aether, and you suffer less damage while it's active.
Tactical information
- Default Aether gives a very short burst of near-invisibility, the duration of which is dependent on the size of your power bar, and it drains faster if you are moving.
- The Ghost upgrade makes it a viable use of long-term cloaking, especially if combined with the Flicker upgrade and effects that restore Power (or health if combined with Plasma Power).
- Notably, Ghost only drains a full bar of power on deactivation, meaning that you can spend all your power moving to naturally uncloak.
- However, it's not true invisibility and does nothing to counter sound, meaning that getting close enough to Enemies can alert them or let them see you, and your (un-supressed) guns will still alert them.
- Additionally there's a faint purple shimmer which enemy players may be able to spot, and this is more pronounced when you are moving.
- Lastly, you can still use Shift to extend your movement while cloaked, though Shift still creates an audible noise that players may seek out.
